Sister Liz receives the Cistercian Habit
The community have rejoiced in witnessing two monastic initiations in the month of August of this year here at Glencairn. On 27 August, 2013 Elizabeth Deasy was formally received as a novice at St Mary’s Abbey, Glencairn, receiving the white habit and white veil of a Cistercian novice.
The feast on which Liz recieved the Cistercian habit is the anniversary of the Dedication of our Abbey Church at Glencairn, a beautiful day for Liz to present herself to the Lord in the monastic way of life to which she has been called.
Sr Liz, as she will from now on be known, will join Sr Angela in the Novitiate, where their initial formation starts with a two year novitiate. The novitiate stage of formation ends with Simple or First Profession after which the simply professed sister completes a further three years of initial formation before her Final Profession as a Cistercian nun of this community and our Order.
We ask you to join us in prayer for our new novices that they will respond to God’s grace with generosity of spirit and will be given every blessing throughout this important time as they grow into the monastic life with the help and support of prayer of their novice director, the Abbess and the whole community.
