Two New Entrants for our Community this New Year
We are delighted to welcome two new Postulants into our community at the threshold of a new year.
Angela Finegan, a social care worker from Dublin and Liz Deasy, a computer programmer from Cork began their monastic life at St. Mary’s Abbey, Glencairn on the feast of the Epiphany of our Lord, 6th January, 2013.
Their initial introduction into the life is called Postulancy, a six month period that precedes our two year Novitiate formation. Following Novitiate and first vows, a sister in formation spends a further three years as a junior member of the community before making her final vows as a Cistercian Nun.
Both Angela and Liz first made contact with St. Mary’s Abbey, Glencairn to attend one of our Monastic Experience Weekends in November 2011 and April 2012 respectively. They both continued to make regular visits and live-in’s with the community since their first time monastic experiences.
Entering the monastery, while a new beginning, is the culmination of a period of honest, faith-filled and supportive discernment. Vocation discernment involves searching for God’s will for our life-path through prayer, spiritual accompaniment and exploring the vocation we feel drawn to both before and during our formation. It is also a time to get to know the community and its way of life more closely after initial contact is made.
We pray for God’s constant light of blessing and guidance on Angela and Liz as they continue their monastic journey at St. Mary’s Abbey, Glencairn and we also ask your prayer for them, remembering too all those who are discerning their vocation with us at this time.
